It appears that the New York Jets' experiment with Chris Streveler has come to an end.

The team released the fourth-string quarterback on Monday after he missed Sunday's practice with a thumb injury sustained during the Hall of Fame Game on August 3.

"He’s just dealing with his thumb right now," said Jets' head coach Robert Saleh on Sunday. "At the end of the game, I think his hand hit the helmet of a defensive player and caused a little pain. Nothing broken, I don’t think."

It's possible that further evaluation revealed an injury that will make Streveler unavailable in the short term, impelling Jets' brass to make the roster move.

Streveler's exit leaves three quarterbacks on the Green & White's 90-man roster — Aaron Rodgers, Zach Wilson and Tim Boyle.

Streveler went 1-of-7 passing for 9 yards and one interception in last week's HOF Game, but he endeared himself to fans with his performance during the 2022 NFL Preseason.

Accounting for a 120.9 passer rating, Streveler posted a 72.7 completion percentage while throwing for 277 yards and five touchdowns last summer. He connected on two game-winning scoring strikes, including the dagger with 22 seconds left in a 31-27 triumph over the New York Giants.

The 2017 Missouri Valley Football Conference Offensive Player of the Year spent much of the 2022 campaign as a member of Gang Green's Practice Squad.
