Jets have all the ingredients to stop the Lions in their tracks

The Jets may have the formula to slow a Lions offense that has looked unstoppable recently: an elite defense and cold weather in New Jersey.

The Lions have won five of their past six games but have faced only one defense the caliber New York: the Green Bay Packers.

In a 15-9 win over the Packers on Nov. 6, the Lions had 257 total yards and only 137 passing. Detroit won because of Green Bay's incompetence on offense.

New York's defense is top five in the NFL in yards allowed and sacks and sixth in points allowed per game.

The play of Jared Goff over the past three games has fueled a Detroit playoff push. He has thrown seven touchdowns and no interceptions over that span, averaging 303 passing yards.

However, this streak of exceptional play has come at home.

On the road, Goff's passing numbers are dreadful. In five road games, he has thrown two touchdowns and four interceptions with a passer rating (81) more than 25 points less than his home rating (106.9).

Goff, who plays in a temperature-controlled dome in Detroit, has historically been terrible in cold weather. In the three games played with the temperature hovering at or below freezing, he has one touchdown pass and five turnovers.

On Sunday, the temperature at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., is supposed to be in the upper 30s, with winds of more than 10 mph.

The Jets are a one-point favorite, per Oddschecker, but they are a great bet to put Goff and the Lions offense in a deep freeze.
