Jets have another Aaron Rodgers distraction to worry about

Aaron Rodgers was supposed to make the New York Jets a Super Bowl contender. All he has done so far is become a massive distraction. The Jets might have another distraction to worry about with him.

According to a report from the New York Times on Tuesday, independent presidential hopeful Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has tabbed the outspoken Rodgers as one of the leading candidates to be his running mate in the 2024 presidential election.

Kennedy told the Times that he has been talking to Rodgers continuously over the past month.

Another prominent name at the top of Kennedy's list is former pro wrestler, and former governor of Minnesota, Jesse Ventura.

The Times reported both men "welcomed" the attention from Kennedy Jr.

Politics aside, this is the absolute last thing the Jets need to worry about right now and only adds another layer to the circus that has been Rodgers' entire existence in New York.

His weekly appearances on "The Pat McAfee Show" have produced eye-opening and shocking comments, while the season-long drama concerning his recovery from an Achilles injury. That injury ended Rodgers' season after just four plays and left the Jets offense in a season-long state of disarray.

They were hopeful that he could come back healthy this season, fix the offense and help complement a defense that could make them a contender in the AFC.

That still might end up happening.

But for now the Jets have to worry about if their franchise quarterback might be abandoning them to go on the presidential campaign trail. That is not what they signed up for when they acquired him from the Green Bay Packers.

Then again, it is the type of story that can only happen to a perpetually dysfunctional franchise like the New York Jets.
