The New York Jets signed wide receiver Mike Williams to a one-year deal in free agency, finally providing quarterback Aaron Rodgers with a viable No. 2 option behind Garrett Wilson.

Of course, the caveat is that Williams is recovering from a torn ACL that he suffered three games into his final season with the Los Angeles Chargers this past year.

The good news is that Williams is making great progress, and during an interview with Adam Schefter this week, Williams said he expects to be ready for Week 1.

“I should be ready, I will be ready for Week 1 of the season,” Williams said. “That’s my goal. Everything’s looking good. … Take some more steps, keep building and make my way up there.”

Williams, who played his collegiate football at USC, was selected by the Chargers with the seventh overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft.

After a disappointing rookie campaign, Williams flashed his big-play ability during his sophomore season, catching 43 passes for 664 yards and 10 touchdowns.

The following year, Williams broke out, snaring 49 balls for 1,001 yards and a couple of scores, leading the league by averaging a terrific 20.4 yards per catch.

He took a bit of a step back in 2020, but in 2021, Williams enjoyed the best season of his career to date, hauling in 76 receptions for 1,146 yards while reaching the end zone nine times.

In his last healthy season in 2022, Williams registered 63 catches for 895 yards and four touchdowns.

The 29-year-old was cut by Los Angeles earlier this month due to financial constraints. It didn’t take long for the Jets to pounce.

When healthy, there is no doubt that Williams is an electrifying playmaker, as he proved playing alongside of Keenan Allen for seven years in LA.

Now, Mike Williams will join Rodgers and Wilson in New York to potentially form one of the most dangerous aerial attacks in football.
