Jets offense is literally without a captain to right the ship

The New York Jets offense is now officially without a captain to right their sinking ship.

Four-time MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers had been the only captain on the team's offense. With Rodgers going down with a torn Achilles just four snaps into his Jets career in Week 1, the unit is led by struggling youngster Zach Wilson.

The former BYU Cougar is surrounded by intriguing talent, but also players with limited experience. Both No. 1 wide receiver Garrett Wilson and starting running back Breece Hall are only in their second seasons, with the former having turned 23 in the offseason and the latter turning 22 over the spring.

The defense, on paper, could be one of the best in the NFL but has underwhelmed through the first three weeks.

Gang Green's defense ranks a respectable 12th in points allowed per game (20.3) but is 19th in yards allowed per contest (351.3). New York is 17th in passing yards per game allowed (222.0) and has been getting crushed on the ground to the tune of 129.3 yards per game (23rd).

The offense has, predictably, been worse.

Under Wilson, the Jets are last in the NFL in yards per game (225.0), passing yards per game (133.7) and points per contest (14.0).

Things won't get any easier in Week 4 when New York hosts the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs on "Sunday Night Football."
