Jets OL Mekhi Becton to undergo knee surgery, expected to be sidelined 4-8 weeks

New York Jets offensive lineman Mekhi Becton will undergo knee surgery and is expected to be sidelined for 4-8 weeks, head coach Robert Saleh confirmed Friday.

Becton suffered the injury during New York's season-opening loss to the Carolina Panthers. His leg got rolled up on, and trainers rushed out to help him before he was carted off the field.

Gang Green has had an abysmal offensive line over the last several years, and now more pressure will be put on rookie quarterback Zach Wilson with Becton sidelined. New York desperately needed Becton to be Wilson's blind-side protector. Now it's unclear who will take over his role.

The Jets will face their AFC East rival in the New England Patriots on Sunday before facing the Denver Broncos in Week 3. Both teams have solid defenses, so the offensive line could be in trouble.
