Jets punter describes how Aaron Rodgers brings 'hope' to team

New York Jets punter Thomas Morstead appeared on Monday's episode of "The Pat McAfee Show" and described how quarterback Aaron Rodgers has brought "hope" to the team this season, even from the sidelines.

Gang Green's blockbuster offseason acquisition went down with a serious Achilles injury just four snaps into his Jets career in Week 1, and it was assumed that the ailment was season-ending. Rodgers has shown signs of a much faster than anticipated recovery, however, leading to chatter that he could improbably return late in the regular season or in the playoffs (if New York qualifies).

The four-time MVP's injury led to much-maligned third-year pro Zach Wilson taking over under center.

Wilson got off to a rough start this campaign with a pair of abysmal performances in back-to-back losses in Weeks 2 and 3 but nearly led the Jets to an upset over the Kansas City Chiefs in prime-time action in Week 4. Wilson set career highs in completions (28) and quarterback rating (105.2) during the defeat against the defending Super Bowl champions.

Since the home loss against Kansas City, New York has won three in a row to improve to 4-3 and put its in the postseason picture. The three-game streak has included a pair of road victories against the Denver Broncos and New York Giants and a stunning home upset over the Philadelphia Eagles.

Even though Wilson has been sacked 13 times in the last three contests and has coughed up four fumbles, he's only thrown one interception. Wilson's pick in Week 5 against the Denver Broncos is his only interception since a three-pick effort in Week 2 against the Dallas Cowboys.

Wilson has gone 55-for-95 for 625 passing yards with one touchdown and one interception, adding 11 carries for 66 yards over the three-game winning streak. The 24-year-old hasn't had a quarterback rating under 73.5 since Week 3 against the New England Patriots.

Wilson and company host the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 9 at 8:15 p.m. ET on "Monday Night Football."
