Jets, QB Joe Flacco have reported mutual interest in new contract

The New York Jets are presumably committed to 2021 second overall pick Zach Wilson as their quarterback of the future, despite a bumpy rookie season. According to reports, they're also interested in keeping together the same group of back signal-callers to the youngster in 2022.

In 13 games (all starts), Wilson posted a 55.6 percent completion percentage, 2,334 passing yards, nine touchdowns and 11 interceptions in 2021. Dallas Cowboys 2018 fifth-round draft pick Mike White appeared in his first four career NFL games (three starts) and recorded a 66.7 percent completion percentage, 953 passing yards, five touchdowns and eight interceptions.

Longtime NFL signal-caller Josh Johnson got into three games off the bench and went 29-for-45 for 334 passing yards, three touchdowns and one interception, while Flacco was 27-for-42 for 338 passing yards, three touchdowns and 0 interceptions. The Jets finished last in the AFC East at 4-13.

After being taken by the Baltimore Ravens with the 18th overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft, Flacco spent the first 11 seasons of his career with the organization. Flacco played in every regular season game from 2008 to 2014, including 15 postseason contests, and despite never making a Pro Bowl or being considered an elite quarterback, caught fire in the 2012 playoffs to help Baltimore win Super Bowl XLVII.

During the title game victory over the San Francisco 49ers, Flacco went 22-for-33 with 287 passing yards, three touchdowns and 0 interceptions, earning Super Bowl MVP honors in the process. Prior to landing with the Jets in 2020, Flacco started and played eight games with the Denver Broncos in 2019.
