Jets QB Zach Wilson doesn't think his style of play will change after second knee injury

Zach Wilson's second NFL campaign isn't off to a good start.

The 23-year-old New York Jets signal-caller will be out until at least Week 4 of the 2022 season after suffering a non-contact knee injury during a preseason game last month requiring surgery.

For Wilson, it's the second knee injury he's suffered during his young career. Wilson was limited to just 13 games his rookie season, missing four contests with a PCL sprain in his right knee.

Wilson suffered his most recent knee injury fighting for extra yards, and despite pleas from his coaches to use more caution, the quarterback doesn't foresee a change in how he plays moving forward.

"I don't think I'll play any differently," Wilson told The Athletic's Zack Rosenblatt. "People will say, 'You should've gone out of bounds, you should've slid,' but it was a non-contact injury. The guy didn't tackle me. If the guy hit me and I got injured that's one thing, but if I can't even run, what am I doing? I have to take care of myself and put myself in a better situation there. Unfortunately, stuff like that happens."

Earlier in the week, Jets head coach Robert Saleh said it was "possible" Wilson could play this Sunday in their season opener against the Ravens.

Although, the Jets dropped their ruse on Wednesday, announcing backup Joe Flacco would handle quarterbacking duties for at least the first three games of the season.
