Jets sign DL Solomon Thomas to one-year contract

The New York Jets made an addition to their defensive line official on Wednesday.

It was reported earlier this week that Thomas and the Jets had agreed to a deal, but the move wasn't announced by the team until Wednesday afternoon. Thomas was selected with the third overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers.

The move to New York reunites the 26-year-old with Jets head coach Robert Saleh, who spent 2017 to 2020 as the defensive coordinator in San Francisco. Thomas was also with the Niners from 2017 to 2020 before signing a one-year, $5 million contract with the Las Vegas Raiders in March 2021.

Across 14 games during his rookie season, Thomas put up what are still career-highs in tackles (41) and tackles for loss (10), while recording 11 quarterback hits and 3.0 sacks as well. The former Stanford Cardinal played in all 16 contests and started a career-high 13 of them in 2018 and made 31 tackles.

2019 was a down season for Thomas as he posted just 21 tackles in 16 games and saw his playing time reduced, playing just 424 defensive snaps (41%). The Chicago native suffered a season-ending torn ACL in Week 2 of the 2020 campaign but recovered to suit up in all 17 contests for the Raiders in 2021 and registered career-highs in quarterbacks hits (12) and sacks (3.5).
