Jets teammates get their first glimpse of a frustrated Aaron Rodgers
In the months since the New York Jets traded for superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers, reports from those around the team have been overwhelmingly positive.
However, after a lackluster offensive performance against the Carolina Panthers in Wednesday’s joint practice, Rodgers new teammates got their first glimpse of what the four-time MVP is like when he’s frustrated. Rodgers admitted there were some “issues” in the pass game.
"I could see [his demeanor] changing, yeah," Jets receiver Corey Davis said, via ESPN. "He's been real patient, real lenient with us, and working with us and making sure we get everything down, which is what we need. But I could imagine it going the other way if it doesn't pick up."
"I sensed frustration from everybody -- everybody on the O-line, Aaron, the coaches," Jets center Connor McGovern added. "You can't go three-and-out in a two-minute drive like that. ... I think there was disappointment from the whole team."
The Jets have been shuffling their offensive linemen for the better part of camp. Wednesday, it caught up to them.
The Panthers pass rush had an easy time getting to Rodgers, who threw two incompletions on his final drive of the scrimmage after being forced out of the pocket due to pressure.
Starting left tackle Duane Brown is out with an injury, former first-round pick Mekhi Becton is fighting for a roster spot and Max Mitchell and Billy Turner have been alternating between the left and right tackle spots in the interim.
“The usual for the NFL is there’s going to be multiple starting offensive lineups throughout the year because of injuries or guys they think could play that aren’t starting right away,” Rodgers told reporters. “So, we’ll figure it out. There’s a few jobs up for grabs, for sure, and it’d be nice to see somebody in the next couple of weeks grab one of those.”
