Jim Caldwell expecting to interview for Bears' head-coaching job?

It's been more than four years since Jim Caldwell last put on the headset as an NFL head coach, but the veteran could be returning to the sideline soon.

Caldwell expects to be interviewed for the Bears' head-coaching opening, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. Per Fowler, several people around the league also believe Caldwell is a candidate for the position.

The 66-year-old was an NFL head coach for seven seasons over two separate stints, the first with the Colts and more recently the Lions. He's a two-time Super Bowl-winning assistant and appeared in one Super Bowl as a head coach.

Caldwell first entered the NFL ranks in 2001, being named the quarterbacks coach for the Buccaneers after a long career in the college ranks that culminated with eight years as the head coach at Wake Forest. He then became the quarterbacks coach and assistant head coach in Indianapolis before being named the leading man in 2009, quickly leading the Colts to the Super Bowl in his first season as head coach.

After a tumultuous 2011 season that resulted in the Colts getting the No. 1 overall pick, Caldwell was fired and quickly signed on as the quarterbacks coach of the Ravens. Not long after that, he became the offensive coordinator, and by 2014 he was back working as a head coach for the Lions.

Caldwell served as the Lions' coach for four years, leading Detroit to the playoffs twice and a 36-28 record. Nevertheless, he was let go following the 2017 season. He most recently served as the quarterbacks coach and assistant head coach of the Dolphins in 2019.

The Bears' coaching job became open when Chicago fired Matt Nagy earlier this week after four seasons on the job. The Bears also fired general manager Ryan Pace.
