Joe Burrow to take first snap in training camp for Bengals

Joe Burrow hasn't exactly had the offseason program he was hoping for amid the coronavirus pandemic, but the new Cincinnati Bengals quarterback probably is looking forward to training camp next month.

While there's been no confirmation that Burrow will be Cincinnati's Week 1 starter, all signs are pointing in that direction. Bengals coach Zac Taylor even revealed Burrow will be taking the first snaps in training camp.

“Absolutely,” Taylor said via Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated. “Yes.”

Taylor acknowledged there will be competition for the starting job, but with all the lost training this offseason, he knows he's going to name a starter sooner rather than later. Breer believes Taylor could come out on day one of training camp and name Burrow the starter, which wouldn't be hard to believe.

Burrow quickly came in and became a leader in Cincinnati and that's something Taylor noted impressed the organization.

“He’s been great,” Taylor said. “As advertised is the best way to put it. You can tell he spends a lot of time on his own being prepared with questions and he’s doing a great job taking ownership, which is important for a quarterback to do, and he’s doing everything he can to own this offense. Been really impressed with him, but not surprised.”

Burrow, of course, has done everything in order to prepare himself for the season, but it's been a challenge for the rookie who hasn't been able to visit the team facilities due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The lack of training could cause some difficulty for Burrow once the season begins, though if he performs like he did at LSU... he should be just fine.
