Tennessee quarterback Joe Milton has a lot of raw talent and certainly developed over the course of his college football career.
After transferring from Michigan, Milton hit the reset button, filled in for Hendon Hooker upon injury and took over in 2023. He had his ups and downs but he’s a tantalizing prospect with a cannon for an arm.
Speaking with NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero at the Senior Bowl, Milton revealed what he had to prove to scouts in attendance.
“Recall and just basically just addressing the huddle,” Milton said on NFL Network. “I feel like that’s the two biggest things because we throw the ball in our offense and we make plays. So like everything else is going to come in and fall into place.”
As far as how he adjusted to new faces ahead of NFL Draft prep, it was pretty much seamless for Milton.
“I feel great,” Milton said. “You know, it was just another opportunity to get back out here with the guys. Different guys across the country, majority of the guys that’s out here, we played against them this season, so it’s just good to see them, talk to them, actually get to know these guys throughout the week.”
MIlton also revealed the advice he received from former NFL All-Pro Anquan Boldin, who happens to be his cousin.
“Just be me, stay true to myself,” Milton said. “And also just don’t hide anything. If you have anything to hide, it will show up so … Just be me. Keep smiling. Make everybody around me better.”
This past year, Milton finished with 2,813 yards, 20 touchdowns, five interceptions and a 64.7% completion percentage. He added 299 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns.
In his career, Milton had 5,353 yards, 37 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, a 61.5% completion percentage, 661 rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns.
As a member of the Class of 2018, Milton was a four-star recruit out of Orlando (Fla.) Olympia, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 42 overall prospect in the state, the No. 17 quarterback in the class and the No. 242 overall prospect in the class.
The NFL Draft begins April 25th and Milton will await his name to come across and find out his pro destination. Milton was ranked No. 9 in Mel Kiper’s top 10 quarterbacks in this year’s draft class.
