Joey Bosa hit with major fine for unsportsmanlike conduct, criticism of refs

The NFL has fined Los Angeles Chargers superstar Joey Bosa a whopping $55,546 for two unsportsmanlike conduct incidents and post-game comments on the officiating in their 31-30 Wild Card loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, Bosa was fined $29,785 and $13,261 for two different unsportsmanlike conduct incidents, and then an additional $12,500 for his post-game comments.

Bosa was livid following a fourth quarter Jacksonville touchdown that cut the Chargers' lead to 30-26.

Bosa wanted a false start and holding called on the Jaguars, then threw his helmet in disgust on two separate times on his way to the sidelines after no penalty was called.

That resulted in an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on him. Jacksonville used that penalty to move the point after attempt to the one-yard line where it went for two, successfully converting it to make a 30-28 game.

That set the stage for the Jaguars to win the game (instead of tying it) on a field as time expired at the end of regulation.

Bosa then let loose on the officials after the game, via ESPN.

"I mean, if I say something to them I get a $40,000 fine but if they blow a call that ruins an entire team's season they get to — they'll probably be back in the locker room after the game like, 'Haha, got that a--hole, oh yeah, got him 15 yards, what a loser.' "I guarantee it, that's what they're f---ing talking like in the back. Whatever power trip. I'm sick of those f---ing people."
There is a lot of frustration there, but it is doubtful that officials were specifically looking to get one over on Bosa. But he was right about one thing: The NFL absolutely fined him for voicing his displeasure. Even if he got the exact amount wrong.
