For the second consecutive month, a Washington Commanders player has won NFC special teams player of the month. Washington’s kicker Joey Slye has been named November’s special teams player of the month; punter Tress Way received the honor in October.
It’s the first time in Washington’s franchise history that two players won NFC Special Teams Player of the Month in consecutive months. It’s also the first time in over 30 seasons that two Washington players were Player of the Month in back-to-back months, according to the Commanders.
The last time it happened was in 1991 when Wilber Marshall received NFC Defensive Player of the Month honors for October, and wide receiver Gary Clark captured NFC Offensive Player of the Month in November 1991. That season, Washington went on to win Super Bowl XXVI.
For Slye, he made all ten field goal attempts through four games in November. He made 4 out of 4 field goals in the Commanders’ Week 10 win over the Philadelphia Eagles, including kicks from 55 and 58 yards.
Slye has made at least two field goals in a game for three straight weeks. He was also seven-of-eight on extra points. Washington went 3-1 in November and is currently on a three-game win streak.
