John Elway done with football, wants to star in a cowboy movie

John Elway is not only done as a consultant with the Denver Broncos, he seems to be done with football entirely.

He spoke about his future plans with Woody Paige of the Denver Gazette this week, and said he does not have the desire to climb another football-related mountain, saying he has been to the summit "a bunch of times" in 62 years.

Among his plans for a post-football live: Spending more time with his grandkids, travel and running his car dealerships and restaurants, while also still holding on to one dream he has never realized: Playing the villain in a cowboy movie.

From the Gazette:

When Elway turned 50 I asked what he wanted to do in life. “I’d like to be the villain in a cowboy movie.’’ So I revisited the subject Friday ahead of his 63rd birthday in June. “I still would like to be in a cowboy movie, but I’m a bit old,’’ he said. John was nicknamed The Duke of Denver after famed actor John Wayne, who also was called “The Duke’’.

Acting dreams aside, if this really is it for Elway and his involvement with football it was a tremendous run in Denver that helped make the Broncos one of the NFL's most prominent franchises.

He led the team to two Super Bowls as its starting quarterback in 1997 and 1998, and then helped build another champion in the front office as an executive.

The Broncos have fallen off in recent years, primarily due to their shortcomings at quarterback and some bad decisions at the position, but you can not take away what Elway did for the organization and city.

Denver is starting a new chapter this season with Sean Payton as its head coach as he attempts to turn around the franchise and quarterback Russell Wilson.

The Broncos have not made the playoffs since their Super Bowl win during the 2015 season.
