John Madden memorial to take place at former Raiders stadium

A public memorial for late football icon John Madden will be held next month in Oakland, Calif., multiple sources confirmed on Monday.

The event will take place at the RingCentral Coliseum in Oakland, which was the Raiders' home stadium while the team was in Northern California. It also served as a home office for Madden, who became the head coach of the Silver and Black in 1969 and led the team to its first Super Bowl title following the 1976 season.

Madden, a Bay Area native, tallied a 103-32-7 record as Raiders head coach.

The memorial, which is being hosted by Madden's family, is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 14, with tickets expected to go on sale this week. Proceeds from ticket sales will go to Madden Charities, which benefit underprivileged youth in the Bay area.

Madden passed away on Dec. 28, 2021. He was 85 years old.
