Faced with Kyler Murray’s ongoing recovery from an ACL tear, the Arizona Cardinals find themselves confronted with a challenging decision regarding their quarterback situation.

Throughout this preseason, Jonathan Gannon has entrusted Colt McCoy with the starting role in both games. However, McCoy has been substituted out after the first quarter, making way for rookie Clayton Tune to gain some valuable reps.

Last year, the 36-year-old veteran quarterback started three games for the Cardinals before being sidelined for the final three weeks due to his own injury.

During the games he started, the Cardinals maintained a 1-3 record, with him averaging nearly 200 yards per game, throwing one touchdown in contrast to three interceptions.

Throughout McCoy’s career, he holds a record of 11-25, prompting the question: Can the Cardinals place their trust in Colt McCoy as he approaches the 13th season in the NFL?

And HC Jonathan Gannon remains cautious in addressing this question, indicating that he appreciates McCoy’s trajectory but is in no hurry to declare any starters at this point.

Meanwhile, the Commanders, the team the Cardinals are set to face in Week One, revealed their starting quarterback about 10 days ago.

It will be 22-year-old Sam Howell getting the second start of his career. Interestingly, Howell is a year younger than Cardinals’ rookie Clayton Tune, who might indeed see some playing time before Kyler Murray’s return from injury.
