Jordan Love puts Packers offense on notice over 'disappointing' start to camp
It took three seasons before Jordan Love was handed the QB1 reigns in Green Bay. Now in his first training camp as a starter, Love isn't slow playing his role as a leader for the Packers.
The 24-year-old signal-caller put his offensive teammates on notice after an up-and-down performance on Tuesday.
"It's very frustrating. I think we're all very tired of it. Kudos to the defense, but obviously it's disappointing as an offense. Collectively, as a whole, it's definitely an area we need to step up," Love said via Ryan Wood of USA Today.
Struggles early on in training camp are expected for any team, but even more so for a Packers team embarking on its first season without Aaron Rodgers as their opening-day starter in 15 years.
Love, a first-round pick out of Utah State in 2020, has minimal in-game experience. Over the past two seasons, he's appeared in just 10 games and attempted 83 passes.
In Week 12 of this past season, Love flashed his first-round traits — albeit in limited snaps — completing 66.67% of his passes for 113 yards and one touchdown against the eventual NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles.
Despite Love's lack of experience, he'll be tossed into the fire this season. While he almost certainly will never fill the shoes of an all-time great in Rodgers, the Packers will task him with leading a squad that has reached the postseason in three of the past four years.
Ideally, Love proves capable of serving as the heir to Rodgers. Yet, if he falters in 2023, look for the Packers to quickly move off of Love and set their sights on an extremely tantalizing 2024 quarterback class headlined by Caleb Williams and Drake Maye.
