Jordan Poyer’s mother: Bills safety hasn’t been ‘100 percent’ since Week 4
Sunday’s 27-10 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Divisional Round very well may have been Jordan Poyer’s last game for the Buffalo Bills.
Poyer suffered an injury early in the fourth quarter but following the game, his mother Julie posted on her Facebook account — which has been confirmed by a Bills spokesperson to be legitimate — that her son was OK and acknowledged that he’d been playing injured for the better part of four months.
“Jordan has given so much of himself to this team,” Julie Poyer said. “He’s played injured since Week 4, unable to get healthy. Missing practice all week, he continued to get cleared to play. … If you know Jordan, you know he will give whatever % he has in his tank, when cleared. Not since Week 4 was he 100%. I can be honest now. There were several games I did not want him playing.”
Poyer left Sunday’s game early in the fourth quarter following a head-on collision with cornerback Tre’Davious White.
Both players were defending Bengals receiver Tee Higgins and had a helmet-to-helmet clash as the ball was batted away shy of the end zone.
The 31-year-old safety has dealt with a series of ailments this season including injuries to his elbow (twice), foot, lungs, and knee.
He blossomed into an elite-level safety over his six seasons in Buffalo, accumulating 582 tackles, 22 interceptions, 44 passes defensed, 33 tackles for loss, seven forced fumbles, and six fumble recoveries over that span, being named a First Team All-Pro in 2021 and a Pro Bowler in 2022.
Poyer is an unrestricted free agent. He recently acknowledged on his podcast that’s uncertain if he will be back with the Bills next season.
