Josh Allen isn't changing his approach with Aaron Rodgers in AFC East

The Buffalo Bills and New York Jets are set to face off in the Monday Night Football opener on September 11.

It will be a great quarterback matchup between Aaron Rodgers and gunslinger Josh Allen. With Rodgers' emergence in New York, the Jets are vying to dethrone the Bills as AFC East champs.

There's now a future hall of famer as the Jets QB1, but that doesn't change a thing in Allen's view.

“He’s definitely a bad man. But at the end of the day, it’s still football,” Allen said on the “Kyle Brandt’s Basement” podcast. “The goal doesn’t change — it doesn’t matter who’s back there throwing passes for the opposing team. We’re trying to go out there and score more points than them.”

Rodgers and Allen are 1-1 head-to-head, and while Rodgers will be part of an improved and revamped Jets offense, the Bills and Jets had different trajectories a season ago -- the Bills were 13-3 and the Jets were 7-10.

Narratives often define matchups in the NFL, be it Montana vs. Marino, Brady vs. Manning, Mahomes vs. Burrow, or in this case Rodgers vs. Allen. However, Allen isn't taking the bait to boil the game down to a two-man matchup. Allen's sticking to the bigger picture and Buffalo's ultimate goal.

“At the end of the day, you want to win your last game. That’s all that matters," Allen said. "It doesn’t matter if you win the division. There’s been Wild Card teams to win the Super Bowl. It’s who’s playing the best at the end of the season.”

While Allen is focusing on the team matchup as a whole, he's not denying Rodgers's presence will make things harder for Buffalo.

"He’s one of the greatest quarterbacks if not the greatest quarterback to ever play the game and it’s always going to be a challenge in these division games when you add a superstar quarterback like him," Allen explained. "It’s just gonna make it that much tougher.”

The AFC East becoming more competitive is reflected in current Super Bowl odds. Per OddsChecker, the Bills have the third-best odds of winning the Super Bowl at +900, with the Jets tied with the Dallas Cowboys for sixth at +1600.

Allen has the right approach to dealing with Rodgers and the rival Jets, but there's no doubt this matchup has gotten a lot more exciting this fall compared to a season ago.
