Josh McDaniels admits he needs to do a better job of getting Julian Edelman going

The New England Patriots offense doesn't look as good as it once did, but that's to be expected as Tom Brady now is with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Bill Belichick's squad has had to adapt with Cam Newton at quarterback and the changes have resulted in a decline in catches for Julian Edelman.

The wide receiver had eight catches for 179 yards against the Seattle Seahawks during Week 2, but in four games since then, Edelman has just 12 catches for 123 yards. He also has yet to find the end zone this season.

Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels said the team wants Edelman to be more involved moving forward, but also stated that everyone needs to be better after dropping to 2-3 with an 18-12 loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday.

“Certainly Julian’s always a big part of what we want to try to do, and I need to do a good job of trying to get him going,” McDaniels said, according to Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald. “But, I think in the grand scheme of things, all of us need to do our jobs well and try to get contributions from everybody to be the most effective we can be.”

The Patriots haven't been able to practice regularly for the past two weeks after a coronavirus outbreak within the organization. While that could be a cause for New England's struggles against the Broncos last week, they'll face no such challenges in preparation for the San Francisco 49ers this week.

If the offense falters against the Niners, the Patriots will be in some trouble for the first time in two decades.
