It’s that time of year in the NFL. Training camp is officially on, with all 32 teams in full go. Stories come to light from each team’s camp, but most reports are just to get some buzz going. Unfortunately, July’s biggest and most impactful stories aren’t positives, and the Detroit Lions are no exception.
The Injury
On Wednesday at Allen Park, the first official day of Lions training camp, Dan Campbell told reporters Josh Paschal would remain out for the time being. According to Jeff Risdon, the rookie out of Kentucky University is suffering from a sports hernia.
Josh Paschal was selected in the second round of this year’s NFL draft. At 6′ 3″, 278 pounds, the Lions drafted Paschal with the hope he could play multiple positions on the defensive line. In his senior season at Kentucky, Paschal was named All-SEC. Playing the edge position, he finished the season with five sacks. However, Paschal’s run-stopping ability is where he shines, finishing last season with 15 tackles for a loss while averaging 4.33 tackles per game.
The Detroit Lions hope to get Josh Paschal back sooner rather than later. However, it “will be a little bit,” Campbell said about the rookie.
Injury History
Sports hernias can take anywhere from 6-12 weeks to heel. However, there is speculation this is an ongoing injury. Josh Paschal, dealing with a groin injury, missed the Wildcats bowl game along with the Senior Bowl. On draft night, Paschal told the Lions he was back to 100 percent.
