The Kansas City Chiefs are set to cut a key contributor to their most recent Super Bowl win. The move comes as the Chiefs try to free up cap space before free agency.

The Kansas City Chiefs have two players they want to bring back

The Chiefs are also expected to apply the franchise tag to L’Jarius Sneed. Kansas City wants to sign defensive tackle Chris Jones to a long-term deal as well. Those moves will count big-time against the Chiefs’ cap.

The Chiefs cut a key Super Bowl contributor

Per Jeremy Fowler with ESPN, the Chiefs are set to release Marquez Valdez-Scantling. The Chiefs will save $12 million for the 2024 season by cutting MVS.

The move isn’t a surprise

The move was expected to happen not too long after the Super Bowl. MVS didn’t have a great regular season for the Chiefs. However, he caught a few crucial balls from Patrick Mahomes in the win over the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl, including a touchdown reception in the third quarter.

The former Green Bay Packers wide receiver should be able to find work for the 2024 season. The Chiefs must work this offseason to find several new pass-catchers for Mahomes.
