Kansas City Chiefs lose wide receiver for the Super Bowl
The Kansas City Chiefs have already ruled out one major offensive playmaker for the Super Bowl.
The Chiefs will be a little short-handed and brittle before their matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles Sunday.
The Chiefs had three wide receivers sitting out of practice last Thursday. There was hope they could use the bye week to get healthy for the Super Bowl.
According to Adam Schefter with ESPN, wide receiver Mecole Hardman was placed on injured reserve Monday. The Chiefs activated running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire from injured reserve.
Hardman has been dealing with a pelvis injury since Week 9. He made his first appearance in the AFC Championship Game since Week 9 but had to leave after aggravating the injury.
Edwards-Helaire has played in 10 games for the Kansas City Chiefs this season. He had 302 rushing yards and three touchdowns in the regular season.
Edwards-Helaire also contributed in the passing game; he had 171 receiving yards and three touchdown catches. He hadn’t played since Week 11, when he suffered a high-ankle sprain injury against the Los Angeles Chargers.
That’s the same injury quarterback Patrick Mahomes dealt with to play in the AFC Championship Game.
