Injuries are an unfortunate part of football, but it provides opportunities for others to step up.

The Kansas City Chiefs will need someone to fill the void of starting defensive tackle Charles Omenihu, who tore his ACL against the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship Game. It's a significant blow to the Chiefs' defense, which will miss his versatility and play-making ability.

So, who could step up and pick up the slack? The answer could be rookie defensive end Felix Anudike-Uzomah, who K.C. drafted in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo said that the Chiefs feel comfortable with Anudike-Uzomah and they could call on him to contribute against the San Fransisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII.

Anudike-Uzomah got some rotational playing time early in the season, but when Omenihu rejoined the team after his suspension, Anudike-Uzomah was buried on the depth chart. Spagnuolo has constantly reiterated that Anudike-Uzomah is coming along nicely, but opportunities have been limited for him among a deep and talented defensive line.

Aaron Ladd of KSHB41 News asked Anudike-Uzomah if he's expecting an increased role in the Super Bowl with Omenihu out. Anudike-Uzomah said that he expects it, but at the same time, he's trying to treat it as a regular week while keeping a "next man up" mentality.

Although Omenihu is technically a defensive tackle and Anudike-Uzomah is a defensive end, the Chiefs use Omenihu on the edge quite often. That role could now go to Anudike-Uzomah, who said he is leaning on his veteran teammates for advice about technique and playing faster.

It's safe to say that this is a golden opportunity for Anudike-Uzomah. If he can make an impact in the biggest game of the year, it will make his name known on a national stage and give him a lot of momentum heading into next season. Anudike-Uzomah has been inactive for all three of K.C.'s playoff run, so he is surely champing at the bit to get his first taste of postseason football.
