Pro Football Focus recently compiled the highest-graded defensive players at each position drafted in the second and third rounds since 2006. On that list, you will find former Carolina Panthers defensive lineman, Kawann Short, who owns a grade of 91.6.

Short put together one hell of a career with the Carolina Panthers and was a staple on defense for several years, including 2015, the year they made a run to Super Bowl 50. That season, Short tallied career highs across the board with 55 tackles, 18 QB hits, 16 tackles for loss, 11 sacks, and four pass breakups. He was named an All-Pro and was selected to his first Pro Bowl that season.

In 2017, Short and the Panthers agreed to a five-year, $80 million deal. Unfortunately, he only appeared in 35 games after signing the contract due to suffering back-to-back season-ending shoulder injuries. The team released him following the 2020 season and has not seen the field since.

During his eight years in the organization, Short recorded 280 tackles, 88 QB hits, 32.5 sacks, 59 tackles for loss, and six fumble recoveries.
