The Bears made Khalil Herbert's return to the 53-man roster official Saturday by taking him off injured reserve but injuries on the other side of the ball still seem to be an issue.
Herbert will see his first action since Oct. 5 against the Detroit Lions Sunday at Ford Field. He had and ankle/shin injury and is over it now. The Bears had made room for him on the roster by waiving running back Darrynton Evans.
Herbert was having his best game of the year in terms of average yards per carry when he suffered the injury in the 40-20 win over Washington. He had 76 yards on 10 runs. For the year, he has 252 yards on 51 runs, a 5.3-yard average.
The Bears also elevated linebacker Micah Baskerville and DeMarquis Gates from the practice squad via standard elevation. The extra linebackers means a possible concern for starting middle linebacker Tremaine Edmunds, who was questionable on the injury report due to a knee injury. He hasn't played since the Oct. 29 game against the Los Angeles Chargers and this week practiced only on Friday on a limited basis.
The other injury concern at linebacker is backup Noah Sewell, who will miss a chance to play in a game against his brother, Lions standout tackle Penei Sewell.
Sewell is normally the first backup and suffered a knee injury in Bears practice this week.
"He’ll be week to week," coach Matt Eberflus said on Friday. "We’ll see where that goes. It’s unfortunate. He was excited to play in the game."
Linebacker Jack Sanborn was questionable with an ankle injury and illness but Eberflus on Friday said Sanborn would likely play.
