Kirk Cousins on next contract: 'I want to be where I'm wanted'

Kirk Cousins is reaching the end of his contract with the Washington Redskins. But the quarterback isn't quite ready to start discussing what his next contract will entail — or where he might be playing.

The Washington Post reported Monday that Cousins didn't want to reveal any decisions on his future in a weekly radio appearance on 106.7 The Fan. He did indicate, however, that he wants to play where he is "wanted" and that such things change from week to week in the league.

“It’s pretty fickle from week to week. Bottom line, like anybody else in any line of work, in any job you have, you want to be where you’re wanted, and I’m no different. So, that’s the bottom line. I want to be where I’m wanted, and we’ll find out where I’m wanted in a few months. But we have a job to do before that, and that’s where my focus is, is on right here and right now. And if we get the job done.”

In a separate article, the Washington Post reported that the Redskins are "sold on Kirk Cousins as their starting quarterback beyond this season" and will probably try to lock him in so he doesn't test the waters on the free agency market. While it is expected that Cousins will get some sort of pay raise, it isn't immediately clear what that value might be.

For the meantime, though, it appears that Cousins is staying focused on playing football.

"I just feel like we’ve come this far focusing on the job at hand, and we’ll continue to do that,” he said. “It’s worked this far, let’s stay to the task and there will be plenty of time when the season’s over with to talk about the future and what’s coming down the road, but there’s just too much important, too much going on right now in the moment to start thinking about what’s coming next.”
