When the Falcons signed Kirk Cousins, Kyle Pitts took to Twitter to immediately address the most important decision pertaining to the acquisition.

Who will wear #8 in Atlanta?

Pitts even tweeted a picture out of him in #84, which he donned in college for the Florida Gators. When he arrived to the Falcons, Cordarrelle Patterson already had #84, leading to Pitts choosing the #8, which has been worn by Kirk Cousins for most of his career. However, it doesn’t seem like they’ll be much of a dispute about the number this offseason.

Cousins has already reached out to Pitts about wearing it, even offering to donate money to a foundation of his choice, but Pitts had a different kind of reward in mind.

“I just want targets every game,” Pitts said

To which Cousins responded, “Good answer.”

It’s enlightening to see there’s already a budding relationship between Kirk Cousins and Kyle Pitts, the latter of which is about to enter the most pivotal season of his career.

Following a historic rookie campaign, injuries and inconsistent quarterback play have prevented Pitts from reaching the potential everybody thought he had coming out of college. The hope is that Cousins will help lift up the entire skill position group, which includes three top ten picks from the last three drafts, and nobody stands more to gain this season than Kyle Pitts, who will be looking to sign a contract extension with the Falcons next offseason, assuming they pick up his fifth year option.

Cousins may be knocked for his lack of success in the postseason, but nobody can debate that he knows how to get his receivers the ball. A plethora of pass catchers have had career years playing alongside the new Falcons quarterback, and the hope is that Pitts will look a lot more like the player he was his rookie season now that there’s some stability under center.
