Kyler Murray lobbied for Cardinals to draft Oklahoma teammate CeeDee Lamb

Kyler Murray told reporters that he encouraged the Arizona Cardinals to take CeeDee Lamb, his teammate at Oklahoma, in the first round of the draft in order to bolster the offense.

"Hell, I play quarterback," Murray said. "You can never have too many weapons."

Murray and Lamb were one of the best quarterback-receiver duos in college football last season, as Lamb ended up with 1,327 yards and 14 receiving touchdowns. Lamb was considered one of the top wide receivers available but receiver was not a pressing need for the Cardinals. They already added an elite pass catcher when they traded for Deandre Hopkins in March.

The Cardinals ended up drafting Clemson linebacker Isaiah Simmons with the eighth pick, who was widely considered one of the best defensive prospects in the class. Simmons is a hybrid, uber-athletic defender who played nearly every position last season, including safety and edge rusher.

Lamb ended up being taken by the Dallas Cowboys with the 17th pick, where he will line up alongside Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup. While he won't be teaming up with his old quarterback, he will be catching balls from Dak Prescott, who has been one of the league's top gunslingers for the last few seasons. Lamb is confident he will be a valuable part of the offense, as he has said his ultimate career goal is to "be a Hall of Famer."

“Have as much of an impact or more that Michael (Irvin) had on the game and on America’s Team," Lamb said when asked about his goals as a Cowboy. "I want to be on a team that makes unbelievable memories together. I feel like that is what we are going to do here.”
