Lamar Jackson's 'Funday with LJ' event canceled amid rising coronavirus cases

Earlier on Tuesday, outlets such as the Associated Press (h/t ESPN ) noted that an Instagram post indicated Baltimore Ravens quarterback and reigning NFL regular-season Most Valuable Player Lamar Jackson still intended to host his "Funday with LJ" event in Florida this weekend despite growing coronavirus cases throughout the state.

That's no longer the case.

As Jonas Shaffer of the Baltimore Sun wrote, Jackson canceled the event scheduled to be held in Broward County. The electric 23-year-old signal-caller planned to hold the third annual two-day "Funday with LJ" in Pompano Beach, his Florida hometown. Flag football, go-karting, water slides, and other activities were planned.

Fliers for the event stated that only adults had to wear masks or face coverings, but added that parents would have to sign waivers for children to participate.

Per Ryan Gorman of NewsRadio WFLA, Florida set a record for coronavirus positivity rate on Tuesday. Virus-related deaths were also up from the previous week:

The Ravens are scheduled to open training camp on July 28.
