The Las Vegas Raiders made an interesting choice in the 2023 NFL Draft by opting for Texas Tech edge rusher Tyree Wilson over Jalen Carter.

Initially, this decision raised eyebrows, especially with Carter’s impressive rookie season as a defensive tackle for Philadelphia. However, Wilson struggled early on, prompting doubts about the Raiders’ selection.

Despite the shaky start, Wilson found his stride later in the season after being moved inside. There’s optimism that his late-season performance merely scratched the surface of his potential.

Additionally, the Raiders traded up in the second round to acquire Michael Mayer, who initially had a slow start but eventually emerged as a promising TE1 option.

While some early picks like Byron Young and Jakorian Bennett faced challenges, Tre Tucker showcased his ability as a deep-ball threat. However, the standout of the draft class was fourth-round pick Aidan O’Connell.

O’Connell demonstrated his ability to win games at the NFL level and is expected to, at the very least, serve as the team’s backup quarterback going forward.

Chad Reuters of NFL.com gave the Raiders’ 2023 draft class a respectable B grade, acknowledging the potential within the unit.

Despite falling short of an A grade, the Raiders tied with the Kansas City Chiefs for the highest grade in the division. This draft class, assembled under the leadership of general manager Dave Ziegler in his final year, introduces talent that could become cornerstone players for the franchise.

As the team transitions into Year 2 with new offensive leadership, there may be adjustments in the roles of certain offensive players. Nevertheless, the majority of talent acquired in the 2023 NFL Draft reflects positively on Ziegler’s tenure as general manager.

Raider Nation eagerly anticipates the long-term contributions of these promising prospects donning the Silver and Black.
