Latest NFL mock draft has Chiefs addressing only real weakness

The Super Bowl-champion Kansas City Chiefs had one clear weakness this season that nearly robbed them of a chance at greatness. In his latest NFL.com mock draft, Daniel Jeremiah has them addressing that weakness with the No. 32 overall pick by selecting wide receiver Troy Franklin out of Oregon.

Chiefs wide receivers had a brutal 2023 season that put all of the pressure on quarterback Patrick Mahomes, tight end Travis Kelce and the running game to drive the offense. No group of receivers had more drops this season than the Chiefs, and it is the one position where they clearly fell behind the rest of their competition in the NFL.

It is a position they have to address this offseason, whether it be through the draft or free agency.

It just so happens that this might be the perfect year to need a wide receiver in the draft because it is one of the deepest classes the position has seen in years.

Jeremiah's latest mock has six wide receivers going in the first round, including three in the top-10.

The one positive for the Chiefs at wide receiver in 2023 was the rapid development of rookie Rashee Rice who ended up catching 79 passes for 938 yards and seven touchdowns during the regular season. He was by far the most productive wide receiver on the team, and was the only one to catch more than 27 passes.

He is a nice foundation for that position, and adding a deep-threat like Franklin would give him a great complement and could really start to get the Chiefs offense back to an elite level.

That could also be terrifying news for the rest of the AFC.

The Chiefs' defense and quarterback were good enough to win the Super Bowl with one of the weakest wide receiver groups in the league.

What could they be capable of if they actually fix that this offseason? The NFL's first ever three-peat would not be out of the question.
