Lions announce plans for full capacity at 2021 games

It was learned late last month that all NFL teams had been cleared to open stadiums at full capacity for the 2021 season despite lingering concerns about COVID-19 variants.

On Monday, the Detroit Lions announced their plans for filling Ford Field.

"We have long awaited the moment where we can officially declare we will have 65,000 fans at Ford Field this fall," Lions team president and CEO Rod Wood said in a prepared statement while explaining that the stadium will operate at 100% capacity. "We've worked diligently with the NFL, as well looked to federal, state and local guidelines to monitor what's best for our team, staff and fans. We're thrilled to be at this point and to welcome One Pride back into the stadium. I can't say it enough, it hasn't been the same without them."

The Lions aren't requiring fans to be vaccinated against the coronavirus to attend games, and face coverings won't be mandated. "The Lions and Ford Field are committed to working with local, state and national health officials and reserve the right to return to play without fans should current COVID-19 conditions evolve," the club added.

Single-game Lions tickets for the upcoming campaign go on sale July 28 at 10 a.m. local time. The gameday experience is now totally cashless and mobile.
