The Detroit Lions are coming off of their best season in three decades, so you can bet that head coach Dan Campbell and the front office want to make sure they keep their best players.

When asked about potential contract extensions for quarterback Jared Goff and wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown on Tuesday, Campbell said the Lions are working on them.

“Yeah, those are priorities,” Campbell said, via Dave Birkett of The Detroit Free Press. “Those are certainly priorities. I’m not going to get into those, but certainly there’s conversations that are being had.”

It’s not surprising that Campbell can’t go into detail on exactly what Detroit has discussed/is discussing with Goff and St. Brown, but it’s certainly a positive sign that the Lions are apparently trying to get long-term deals done with both players.

Detroit previously met with St. Brown’s representatives at the NFL Scouting Combine last month, and Goff has already stated that he wants to remain in the Motor City for the long haul.

So, chances are, the Lions will be locking up both Goff and St. Brown sooner rather than later.

Goff is coming off of a terrific 2023 campaign in which he threw for 4,575 yards, 30 touchdowns and 12 interceptions while completing 67.3 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 97.9.

Meanwhile, St. Brown hauled in 119 receptions for 1,515 yards and 10 scores en route to a Pro Bowl appearance and a First-Team All-Pro selection as Goff’s top receiver.

Given the connection those two have developed, it’s no shock that the Lions want to get moving on extending them, especially after winning their first division title since 1993 and winning a playoff game for the first time since January 1992.

We’ll see if Goff and St. Brown end up with new deals before next season.
