Lions HC Dan Campbell has concerning evaluation of suspended WR Jameson Williams

Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell expressed some slightly concerning thoughts about wide receiver Jameson Williams' "hand mechanics" on Wednesday.

Though Campbell tried to mask his words, his comments certainly aren't a ringing endorsement of the second-year pro.

Williams is already in a less-than-ideal spot entering the 2023 campaign, as he was one of a number of players to receive suspensions for violating the NFL's gambling policy. The 2022 12thoverall pick will miss the first six games of the upcoming season due to the punishment, though there are plenty of fans who think the suspension is unwarranted.

It was reported earlier this week that Williams threw a punch at teammate Starling Thomas during practice on Monday, making his summer even more troublesome. This came after Williams was reportedly struggling with "multiple dropped passes."

The 22-year-old Alabama product is slated to be the team's No. 2 wideout behind Pro Bowler Amon-Ra St. Brown.

Williams missed 11 games in his rookie year as he was recovering from a torn ACL that he suffered during the College Football Playoff National Championship Game in January 2022. He finished last season with just only reception for a 41-yard touchdown on nine targets across six games, while adding one rushing attempt for 40 yards.

If the Lions want to build on last year's surprising 9-8 finish and near playoff berth, having Williams healthy and productive could go a long way. Detroit hasn't made the postseason since the 2016 campaign and hasn't won a playoff game since January 1992.
