Lions QB Jared Goff 'unlikely' to play vs. Falcons on Sunday

Goff tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday and has not tested out of protocol. He is reportedly only experiencing mild symptoms.

"I'm feeling good. It's pretty much a mild cold. I'm feeling fine," Goff said in his weekly interview with  97.1 The Ticket in Detroit. "I had some symptoms pop up really Sunday night after the game. Monday morning, I said, 'You know what? I might as well make sure this is good to go,' and sure enough, I was positive." 

Goff, who is vaccinated, went on to recall how he played through having the flu earlier this month and was allowed to be around his teammates despite feeling much worse than he currently does with COVID.

"It is interesting," he said. "I had the flu a couple weeks ago and they didn't have a problem with me playing, but I'm not allowed to play with this."

Goff was one of three Lions to enter health and safety protocol on Monday, resulting in the Lions having 13 positive tests in a 15-day span.

With Goff not testing out of protocol in time for Sunday's game, Detroit (2-11-1) will start backup Tim Boyle under center. In his only start this season, the 27-year-old completed 15 of 23 passes for 77 yards with zero touchdowns and two interceptions in a 13-10 loss to the Cleveland Browns.
