Where will Matthew Stafford end up for the 2021 NFL season? Raj Mehta-USA TODAY Sports

Lions QB Matthew Stafford prefers to play for Colts in 2021?

Matthew Stafford's 12-year run with the Detroit Lions will come to an end this offseason. NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported that the two sides have agreed to part ways, with Stafford requesting a trade from the franchise.

It appears Stafford knows exactly which team he'd like to play for in 2021, too. According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, the veteran quarterback "most definitely has his eyes on" the Indianapolis Colts.

Philip Rivers announced his retirement last week and Jacoby Brissett is headed for free agency. So, the Colts are a real option for Stafford, provided they want to give up the assets to acquire him.

Indy will enter the offseason with the second-most cap space in the NFL and have only one quarterback under contract for 2021, 2020 fourth-round pick Jacob Eason. Stafford is signed through the 2022 season and has cap hits of $20 million in 2021 and $23 million in 2022.

In 12 seasons with Detroit, Stafford went 74-90-1, completing 62.6% of his passes. During the 2020 campaign, he led the struggling Lions to a 5-11 record, completing 64.2% of his passes for 4,084 yards and 26 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

The 32-year-old will join an interesting quarterback market this offseason, with Texans star quarterback Deshaun Watson reportedly wanting out of Houston. Teams will also have the opportunity to draft Trevor Lawrence, Justin Fields, Zach Wilson, Trey Lance and Mac Jones, so there's really no telling where Stafford may end up in 2021.

The New England Patriots, Washington Football Team, New Orleans Saints, Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers could also be in the mix for Stafford this offseason.
