Lions rookie RB D'Andre Swift could miss Panthers game with concussion

Both the Detroit Lions and Carolina Panthers could be without key offensive figures for Sunday's showdown at Bank of America Stadium.

As Michael Rothstein reported for ESPN, Detroit rookie running back D'Andre Swift missed practice on Thursday and is in the concussion protocol. It's unknown if the 21-year-old will be cleared by the weekend.

Carolina, meanwhile, will be without All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey due to a shoulder injury and could also take the field without quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, who is dealing with an MCL sprain, in the lineup.

Swift rushed for 81 yards on a career-high 16 carries and also contributed five receptions for 68 yards and a touchdown in last Sunday's 30-27 victory over the Washington Football Team. He clearly leapfrogged future Hall of Famer Adrian Peterson on the depth chart and emerged as a fantasy football breakout star in the process.

Peterson, who leads the Lions with 371 rushing yards and 97 attempts, and Kerryon Johnson will shift up the chart if Swift can't play. Johnson has accumulated 112 yards and a TD on 30 carries.

Swift tallied 331 rushing yards with a team-best four scores on the ground over his first nine pro games. He also has 31 catches for 275 yards and two TDs.
