Longtime DE among potential cut candidates for Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens are projected to have $27.83 million in cap space, but they hope to sign QB Lamar Jackson, who will command a massive payday. So the Ravens must make roster cuts to free money. Here are some players who could be cut.

Chuck Clark, safety

Clark has been a reliable piece on the Ravens' defense over six seasons. He was one of just four defensive players on the team who didn't miss a snap in 2022 and posted a career-best 101 tackles. However, his time in Baltimore may be nearing its end.

The Ravens selected his likely replacement in safety Kyle Hamilton with pick No. 14 in the 2022 NFL Draft. Cutting Clark would save the team $4 million against the cap.

The 27-year-old said in August somebody would have to take his job for him to lose it.

Calais Campbell, defensive end

Campbell could retire, but if he doesn't, he's a cut candidate. Jettisoning the 36-year-old would put $7 million back into the Ravens pockets.

The veteran has never been the same as his days in Jacksonville, but he still had a solid 15th season with 36 tackles, 5.5 sacks and two forced fumbles in 2022.

Impending free agent Brent Urban is the only defensive end listed behind Campbell on the depth chart, so Baltimore will need to add to the position in free agency or the draft.

Patrick Ricard, fullback

An undrafted free agent in 2017, he made his fourth straight Pro Bowl in 2022. However, cutting Ricard would free $4 million in cap space.

The soon-to-be 29-year-old had the first scoreless season of his career in 2022, and the Ravens may already have his replacement. Ben Mason, Baltimore's 2021 fifth-round pick, is the only other fullback on the roster. He's only 23 and is signed through the 2023 season at just $750,000
