Longtime NFL executive gives big update on Rams' Matthew Stafford

Longtime NFL executive Michael Lombardi said Thursday on "The Pat McAfee Show" that the Los Angeles Rams have contacted teams about trying to move quarterback Matthew Stafford.

The former Cleveland Browns general manager added that while the Rams will have a hard time moving Stafford "because he's got $57 million guaranteed" on his current contract, he's "fully available."

Insider Matthew Berry reported Tuesday that he was told during the recent NFL combine that Stafford "could barely throw last year." Berry's source also told him that "retirement is still not out of the question" for the former first-overall draft pick.

Stafford was limited to nine games and didn't play past Week 11 of the 2022 season due to a spinal cord contusion but said in December that he wouldn't be retiring. The 35-year-old did have a career-best 68.0% completion percentage last year, but his other numbers were underwhelming.

Stafford finished the season with 2,087 passing yards and just 10 touchdowns against eight interceptions, while his 87.4 quarterback rating (87.4) was his worst mark since 2014.
