Looking ahead: Three RBs to sell high in fantasy football after Week 4
Based on your league's settings, you probably can't get a trade processed in time ahead of Sunday's slate of games and "Monday Night Football." However, there are already a few players who are performing well that you should consider trading away while their value is at its peak.
Here are three sell-high candidates at the running back position that might be worth offloading after Week 4.
Raheem Mostert, Miami Dolphins
The Dolphins offense was already viewed as a fantasy goldmine coming into the season, yet the initial results have been far better than anyone could have imagined, with Mostert's success being the most unexpected of the bunch. The RB1 overall, Mostert leads the NFL in total touchdowns (seven) after scoring four times against Denver in last week's historic 70-20 win.
Although Mostert won't replicate that performance at any point this season, it's not necessarily why you should consider selling him. It's impossible to predict a player getting hurt, but Mostert's extensive injury history is a glaring cause for concern as he has played just one fully healthy season in his career.
It's also all but assured that Mostert will see his role decrease as the season goes on. Rookie De'Von Achane has flashed massive upside as a dual-threat back to start his career, and veteran Jeff Wilson Jr. (860 rushing yards in 2022) will be eligible to come off IR next week. You most likely selected Mostert with one of the last picks in your draft, so if you can package him for a more prominent talent, it's worth looking into.
Kenneth Walker III, Seattle Seahawks
Even though he sustained a preseason groin injury, Walker has had a strong start to his second professional season. Walker, who ranks as the RB4 overall in PPR scoring formats, just enjoyed a career-high 30.6-point outing last week against Carolina. Unfortunately, it'll be difficult for Walker to maintain his impressive pace with second-round rookie Zach Charbonnet continuing to see his role expand each week, which is why it might be time to consider fielding offers.
Additionally, Walker has one of the worst fantasy playoff schedules among running backs. In the opening round (Week 15), Seattle takes on Philadelphia, which allows the fewest fantasy points per game to opposing running backs (6.1). Then, the Seahawks travel to Tennessee to face the Titans in Week 16, whose defense has allowed the third-fewest rushing yards this season (156).
Feel free to hang onto Walker for a few more weeks, though his value will likely never be higher than it will be after playing against a subpar Giants run defense in Week 4.
David Montgomery, Detroit Lions
Despite missing the Lions’ Week 3 matchup against Atlanta with a thigh bruise, Montgomery has emerged as one of the best value picks based on his preseason ADP. The 26-year-old has totaled 262 rushing yards and five touchdowns through his first three games with Detroit, including a memorable return from injury on "Thursday Night Football" that saw him rush for 121 yards and three scores.
While the Lions offense is one of the better scoring units in the NFL, there's no guarantee Montgomery will have any more three-touchdown performances. If he's not finding the end zone, Montgomery will have a relatively low floor for PPR leagues, considering he's averaging just 3.8 yards per carry this season and averages 3.9 yards per rushing attempt for his career.
