The Los Angeles Chargers could use some depth at the wide receiver position, and they could be turning to a former Kansas City Chiefs playmaker to help remedy that issue.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Chargers are interested in Marquez Valdes-Scantling (via Alex Insdorf of Chargers Wire).

The fact that Los Angeles is aiming to address its receiving corps is no surprise.

The Chargers traded Keenan Allen to the Chicago Bears and cut Mike Williams last month, leaving Los Angeles with very limited options at wide out.

Right now, Quentin Johnston and Joshua Palmer are LA’s top two receivers, and while Johnston is a former first-round pick and Palmer has been somewhat productive, neither inspires much confidence at the current point in time.

Valdes-Scantling certainly isn’t a No. 1 guy, but he would at least provide quarterback Justin Herbert with a dependable pair of hands in the aerial attack.

The 29-year-old is coming off of a 2023 campaign in which he played 16 games and logged 21 catches for 315 yards and a touchdown. He made some big plays in the Chiefs’ championship run, totaling eight grabs for 128 yards. He also scored a touchdown in the Super Bowl.

Valdes-Scantling, who played his collegiate football at the University of South Florida, was originally selected by the Green Bay Packers in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

He spent the first four years of his career with the Packers, with his best season coming in 2020 when he caught 33 passes for 690 yards and six scores.

The St. Petersburg, Fl. native then joined Kansas City in 2022 and actually enjoyed a very productive debut campaign with the club, snaring 42 balls for 687 yards and a couple of touchdowns.

Valdes-Scantling could represent a solid auxiliary option for Herbert next season.
