The Los Angeles Chargers have had a season to forget in 2023 after going 5-12 to finish the season. Season-ending injuries to stars like quarterback Justin Herbert and wide receiver Mike Williams played a huge role in the Chargers’ struggles, along with some key injuries to the offensive line. One star player who missed the whole season due to a heart issue has now come out and said that there is a 99 percent chance that he will be retiring after many years in the NFL.

Corey Linsley Retirement

Chargers center Corey Linsley said that there is a 99 percent chance that he will be retiring and will not be returning next season. Linsley has been the best lineman for the team since coming over from the Green Bay Packers and has solidified himself as one of the best centers in recent memory. He did not play this season due to a heart issue, which is the reason why he will likely be retiring.

Linsley has been a fan favorite in Los Angeles for his elite play and has been the anchor of the offensive line. In 2021, he was the best center in the league, allowing zero sacks on 1,076 snaps played. He has been a key piece in the success of Herbert and has been ranked amongst the top in every category. He was the top-ranked center going into the 2022 season and would have likely been in the top five again in 2023 if it weren’t for his heart issues.

Los Angeles Chargers Fans React

Fans sent Linsley their thoughts and prayers after hearing the unfortunate news and collectively agreed that this was the right decision. Chargers fans have had nothing but praise for the veteran center, and they are wishing him well on his likely retirement from the sport.

Linsley’s retirement will mean Los Angeles could be shopping for another center. The team ranked near dead last in every offensive line category, and the injury to the veteran center played a huge role. Will the Chargers shop for another veteran center, or will they look to draft a promising rookie?
