The Los Angeles Rams have added quarterback depth ahead of Sunday’s contest against the Green Bay Packers. Per NFL Insider Adam Schefter, the Rams have promoted quarterback Dresser Winn from their practice squad while listing starter Matthew Stafford as questionable.

Winn signed to the Los Angeles Rams practice squad earlier this month but will dress for the first time this season in Week 9. Meanwhile, Stafford continues to deal with a thumb injury suffered in last Sunday’s loss against the Dallas Cowboys.

Los Angeles Rams QB Dresser Winn: Activated Before Week 9

Dresser Winn, an undrafted rookie from the 2023 NFL draft, played his college career at the University of Tennessee at Martin (UT-Martin). He played six seasons with the Skyhawks, throwing 37 touchdowns and 24 interceptions in 32 games. Additionally, he rushed 174 times for 164 yards and eight scores. His best season came in 2022, throwing for 2,928 yards and 18 touchdowns against 11 picks.

Winn saw action in just one preseason game, a 41-0 loss against the Denver Broncos. The 25-year-old went 3-of-5 for 21 yards. The Los Angeles Rams released him at the end of August. However, he signed with the Edmonton Elks shortly after but got released before playing a game.

Matthew Stafford: Game-time Decision for Sunday

Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford suffered a gruesome injury in last Sunday’s blowout loss against the Dallas Cowboys. He suffered a sprained UCL in his right thumb and logged three straight DNPs during this week’s preparation. However, coach Sean McVay considers the Super Bowl-winning gunslinger a game-time decision. The Rams will have quarterbacks Brett Rypien and Dresser Winn at their disposal if Stafford can’t play.

Rypien came in for the ailing Stafford last week, going 5-of-10 for 42 yards. He also went 14-of-23 for 92 yards and no scores or picks in the preseason. The Boise State product played the last three seasons with the Denver Broncos, completing 60.7% of his passes for four touchdowns and eight picks. Meanwhile, Winn will operate as Rypien’s backup after recently being promoted from the practice squad. He played at UT-Martin last season.

The Rams also drafted former Georgia Bulldogs star Stetson Bennett in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL draft, but the 26-year-old sits on the non-football-related injured reserve. There is no timetable for his return.
