Los Angeles Rams general manager Les Snead knew that he had to improve the team’s cornerback play during NFL free agency. It was one of the weakest links for a surprise playoff team a season ago.

Los Angeles spent the early part of free agency doing just that, signing Darious Williams away from the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Rams have now doubled down at this position with yet another major move. According to NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo, the team has signed former Buffalo Bills All-Pro cornerback Tre’Davious White. The deal comes in at up to $10 million for one year.

This has the potential to be an absolute coup for Snead and Co. Sure, White has dealt with major injury issues over the past few years. But he has a track record as one of the best cover corners in the entire NFL.

Tre’Davious White Injury Issues and Impact on the Los Angeles Rams

White, 29, missed all but four games this past season due to a torn Achilles. That came after he suffered a torn ACL during the 2021 season. This cost White the first 11 games of the 2022 campaign.

He is an injury risk. That much is already known. But when on the field, he’s played the role of a true lock-down cornerback.

Prior to suffering that aforementioned ACL injury in 2021, the former first-round pick from LSU had yielded a 51.6% completion and 59.9 QB rating when targeted. That came after a brilliant two-year run in Western New York.

  • Tre’Davious White stats (2019-20): 9 interceptions, 53.4% completion, 55.7 QB rating allowed

If White can return to pre-injury form, it would give Los Angeles an elite corner duo. The aforementioned Williams finished second in the NFL with 19 passes defended as a member of the Jaguars last season. He also picked off four passes while yielding a mere 63.9 QB rating when targeted.
