Mark Sanchez thinks Jets need to part ways with Sam Darnold: 'It's not fair to the kid'

The New York Jets still aren't sure what to do with Sam Darnold and the second-overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Former Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez offered up a suggestion on Friday for the benefit of the young quarterback.

During a segment on ESPN's "Get Up," Sanchez said he'd like to see Darnold play elsewhere in 2021 because it's not fair for the Jets to hold onto him and not give him the opportunity for a fresh start.

"As soon as he goes 3-and-out two times this year, his a-- is getting booed out of the stadium. It's not fair to the kid," Sanchez said, according to SNY's Coby Green. "They gotta do something fast to get him out of there."

If the Jets commit to Darnold and he struggles in 2021, things could get worse for the 23-year-old, especially if New York doesn't use the No. 2 pick on a quarterback.

General manager Joe Douglas said earlier this week he does not doubt that Darnold will reach his potential. However, he also said he wouldn't turn away calls from teams interested in the QB.

Darnold should have several suitors around the league if the Jets opt to trade him. The only question is what it'll cost to get a deal done.
