This offseason, the Baltimore Ravens made one of the biggest signings with the future Hall of Famer Derrick Henry . The franchise has expressed immense excitement with the pairing of two biggest stars: Lamar Jackson and King Henry. However, the story of how he landed the Ravens seems a bit controversial.
The former Tennessee Titans cornerback has previously revealed that the Ravens General Manager Eric Decosta has been pursuing him since the trade deadline with a keen interest in adding him to the roster. However, in a recap episode of Punch Line Podcast with Marlon Humphrey podcast, Baltimore CB Marlon Humphrey opened up about his subtle interaction with Decosta, before signing Henry.
I got a text message. It’s Eric Decosta . I realized quickly that he wasn’t calling to chat. ‘I’m talking to you boy,’ [said Decosta]. I was like who’s my boy? He’s like ‘the King– tell me about him.’ I’m like yeah man, he was my guy back in college. We were super cool. Marlon Humphrey said
When the Ravens cornerback realized Decosta was thinking about signing Henry, that’s why he was asking. So he offered to talk to the King and see what was going on. But Decosta had specifically told him not to do anything, as he wanted the franchise’s interest to stay low-key.

After that, when Humphrey got to know Henry was in Dallas, he casually called him and learned that his former Alabama teammate was considering joining the Dallas Cowboys. Interestingly, Henry revealed later that the Cowboys didn’t make any effort in signing him.
The very next day, the news came that King Henry had officially signed with the Ravens for a two-year contract worth $16 million. Humphrey revealed he left “betrayed” after realizing that his former teammate had lied to him and he wasn’t aware of the signing until it officially happened.
Humphrey also added that if he had known about the signing earlier, he would have probably tweeted with a crown emoji to welcome Henry into the team. But after what Henry did to him, he remained quiet afterwards.
